Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. In music, film and television Queen Latifah has won 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nominations, and nods to an Emmy Award. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, as well as Rita, a educator of Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic high school located in Newark New Jersey. Latifah refers to an Arabic word that means "delicate and compassionate". Her cousin gave it to her in the age of eight.
