Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman from the United States. She is the controlling owner of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association and currently serves as its president. The California native Buss was raised in an affluent family. Jerry Buss, her father, was an entrepreneur in the field of real estate and later was the owner of Lakers Entertainment and Sports. Her feelings of abandonment were heightened after her parents split in 1972. When she was 19 years old, she took over the Los Angeles Strings professional Tennis team as General Manager. Later, she established her own Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. She also served as president of the Great Western Forum before assuming the duties of the vice president of the Lakers. Her father died in 2013 and his controlling ownership for the Lakers was passed on to Buss as well as her siblings through a family trust which gave each sibling an equal vote.
